If you capture the Finder window in column mode then the preview area is selected. You can capture it but the screenshot image is empty. You shoud select whole the window.

SimpleCap select one MacOSX assumes to be window. It occurs not only on Finder but also on other application. In this case you can select multiple windows by pushing Shift key.
